In Years 7 and 8, we teach all the subjects listed in the table below. While we employ a range of innovative teaching techniques to deliver the curriculum, the subjects remain similar to those found in almost all schools. Our Subject Directors will ensure that all key areas of the national curriculum are covered during Key Stage 3 in order to prepare students optimally for the next stage of their academic career.
When planning Harperbury’s curriculum, we created a model of teaching and learning based on best practice from some of the most pioneering and successful schools.
Knowledge comes from the subjects being taught – there is no substitute for learning the facts in each subject! Schools are about learning, and exams (to a great extent) test what has been learnt.
Learning skills are needed for our students to be effective learners at school as well as in education beyond school and in the workplace. While facts are useful, we also need students to be able to link those facts together, question, analyse, predict, research, present and collaborate. We aim for all students to create a deeper understanding of what they are learning, making it easier to recall and apply. Developing these learning skills is every bit as important as the actual content.
