Prep (or homework) serves two purposes. First, it extends the curriculum time, and secondly it develops the skills of working independently. At Harperbury, independent tasks are planned very carefully to fit in with the learning in school. Tasks might include practising skills which have been taught in a previous lesson or might be to research a topic in preparation for a future lesson. Work will never be set just to fill the time. In Year 7, there are compulsory sessions of prep at the end of each day, when this independent work can be done. It will be supervised by staff, but the aim is for students to work on the tasks by themselves. In later years, more independent work will be needed both in school and at home.
