At Harperbury, we believe that every child in our care deserves the life chances that outstanding exam results and a well-rounded education can offer them. It is for this reason that the growth mindset philosophy is so important to our ethos and underpins all learning as it teaches our young people that intelligence is not set in stone and that perseverance and self-belief, rather than inborn talent, is the path to mastery and success.
The whole curriculum is designed to be flexible, to allow pupils to grow, to offer support, to provide challenge and stretch so that whatever their starting point pupils will progress at rates as good as those in the very best schools.
We also believe that children learn best when they are engaged and motivated. Our real world tasks and involvement of the local community through our local area partners will ensure that students engage meaningfully with the world beyond the school gates.
Harperbury teaching will be active, engaging and highly relevant to future life. We will vary the teaching, the grouping and even the building to create an experience which ignites the flame of curiosity and the passion to learn.
Essential for young people in higher education and the world of work is an excellent command of the English language and sound numerical proficiency. We will therefore teach literacy and maths every day in the shorter intensive sessions.
Our curriculum is holistic with the aim that our students graduate with an education deep and broad, academic and practical, self-developmental and outward-looking.
