We intend to make the transfer from primary to secondary school as smooth as possible.
Our staff will contact the primary school of every child coming to us in Year 7, speaking to teachers in order to gain a full picture of each pupil’s achievements and learning needs.
Every family will be invited in for a short interview with the Head, Deputy or Head of Year 7. It is hoped that all questions will be answered in this meeting, but parents are free to contact the Head at other times if they have further queries.
In line with most other secondary schools, Harperbury will run a Year 6 induction day when all of the 120 pupils due to join Year 7 come together at the school for a range of activities. This will take place in July 2015.
When pupils start in September, they will be under the specific care of the Head of Year 7 who will oversee the settling-in process. The whole year-group will attend a residential team-building event in the autumn term which will cement friendships for the future and make clear the school’s ethos and expectations.
In Years 7 and 8 each child will be taught their academic subjects by five teachers only, although there will be contact with many other staff as well as the regular, personal meetings with the tutor. In this way, Harperbury reaps the benefit of being a small school where every child is well known and receives the personal attention which they would find in the very best schools.
