We have identified the former Harperbury Hospital site as our preferred location. Harperbury is a large site off Harper Lane near Radlett, within the Green Belt. Lying mostly empty since the 1990s, the site is undergoing major redevelopment. The aim is to bring redundant spaces back into use, with a new hospital (already in operation), new homes, joint community facilities, a gym, recreational spaces, allotments and, we hope, our school.
We are working with the Department for Education, Department of Health and other authorities to secure this site. We have been working with Interserve a major contractor and their associates to design our new school and are currently preparing a planning application to St Albans City & District Council. We hope the results of this application will be known by April 2016.
It is likely that initially we will need to use temporary accommodation on the site. Both temporary and permanent buildings will be resourced with highest level of technology to allow us to deliver our curriculum into the future.
The area around Harperbury has excellent public transport links, served by existing buses from the main towns and villages and Radlett railway station. In areas without existing links, we intend to run a school bus service, which we aim to subsidise through commercial sponsorship.
